Plough Lane
Past Exhibitions: Defunct football ground
Some time ago, I lived close by to an abandoned football stadium, the old home of Wimbledon Football Club on Plough 1912 until 1991. There was something about the empty football stadium, it was sad but also an intriguing, a frozen moment in time that held 80 years of history and memories. The stadium inspired an interest in places, objects and things that have come to the end of their lives.
As AFC Wimbledon prepare to play their first game at Plough Lane tonight, 29 years after their last game and being sold out of their original Plough Lane home, it seemed like a good moment to revisit some artworks I made as a response to living next to the defunct stadium.

Extracted acrylic paint Pellets from Defunct football ground painting, a by product of my painting technique, were used to create a model of what was proposed development for the old football stadium site, using the extracted paint. The Safeway store was never approved and the site eventually became a private housing development.
